A Fairytale with a Trailer Park Twist: Drama Department Stages Cinderella Waltz, October 6, 7 and 8

Chestertown, MD, October 4, 2006 — Washington College's Drama Department presents the comedy Cinderella Waltz, a senior thesis directed by Sarah Byrne and written by Don Nigro, October 6 and 7, at 5 p.m. and October 8, at 2 p.m.

Performances will be held outside by Washington College's Kudner Bridge. No reservations are required and the public is invited to attend.

Set out to a faraway forest on the outskirts of Cinderville, where the Snow family trailer becomes the scene of a modern tale of magic. Cinderella Waltz is an adult fairytale meant to shatter stereotypes and expectations. The Cinderella character, portrayed by senior Alaina Anderson, discovers what really matters with a little help from an eccentric Fairy Godmother, portrayed by senior Greg Schaefer, and the unexpected wisdom of the village idiot, performed by junior Oliver Barnyak. Hilarious and offbeat, adults will revel in this farcical retelling.

"This isn't your typical fairytale, so expect the unexpected," warns director Sarah Byrne. "The play is incredibly funny with very adult humor."
